This is a little tech demo for an idea floating around in my head for a while: a game about home, spaceships, and long journeys.

I'm not actively working on that project, but some small experiments around ideas I had for it and wanted to share the results.

This small demo is the result of experimenting with:

  • a planetary shader supporting three styles of planet (based on the shaders from Deep Fold's beautiful Pixel Planet Generator but re-engineered using ray-traced spheres based on this tutorial),
  • a random planet generator, which uses a custom implementation of Tracery to generate small descriptions of each planet, and
  • unrealistic spaceship physics that play with a sense of scale.

Really cool concept dude! I would love to see more planet variation! And I love how simple the controls are whilst still capturing a space-flight kinda feel! Nice Job!!

Wow, absolutely sick. Really cool to see the planets in a more 3d kind of way. Ray-tracing is something I still want to learn myself. Also sense of scale is pretty good in this.

Fantastic work!

Thank you!! The tutorial I linked above does a really good job of walking you through it step-by-step

Not gonna lie, this was oddly hypnotizing to play around with. It put it a sense of zen. I might have to bookmark this so I can come back to it when I'm really stressed out with stuff. Excited to see what you make in the future!

Thank you!!
